CONVEYANCERS' CONTINUING EDUCATION RULES
These rules are promulgated by the New Zealand Society of Conveyancers (NZSoC) under Section 98(1)(c) of the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006 (the Act), following consultation as mandated by Section 100 of the Act.
Title and Commencement
The rules are titled "Conveyancers' Continuing Education Rules" and come into force on the 1st of July 2025.
Objective
The purpose of these Rules is to establish mandatory requirements for conveyancers to engage in continuing legal education pertinent to the law and practice of conveyancing.
Interpretation
Definitions for key terms include:
- Act: The Lawyers and Conveyancers Act
- Application: A formal request to the NZSoC for the renewal of registration as a Registered Conveyancer or Conveyancing
- Approved Provider: An entity recognised by the NZSoC for providing continuing legal
- CCE: Conveyancers' Continuing Education
- Conveyancer: Includes Registered Conveyancers, Conveyancing Practitioners, and incorporated conveyancing
- Non-Verifiable Activities: Activities contributing to professional development without formal
- Verifiable Continuing Education: Education programs that are formally recognised and certified.
CCE Requirements
Completion of a minimum of 5 hours of verifiable continuing education and 5 hours of non-verifiable activities per yearly period.
Compliance Obligations
Conveyancers are required to maintain accurate records and upload their activities to their profiles on the website ensuring that these uploads are completed no later than 30 May.
Failure to Comply
Non-compliance may result in refusal to renew registration or issue a practicing certificate. Extensions may be granted in exceptional and unavoidable circumstances.
Additional Provisions
Conveyancers not providing regulated services for a whole yearly period may apply for reduced requirements.
